Wallace and Madeline Ahrendt were the parents of Jane Ahrendt Batts, long time educator in the Salem School District who retired as Principal of the Fisk School. Wallace and Madeline were long time residents of Hudson, NH and were very involved in the Hudson community.

Ted was a Salem, NH police officer who died in a tragic accident after being hit by an automobile. Ted was born in Boston Massachusetts and lived his life in Lowell. He also served the communities of Freemont, Epping and Seabrook. He was very active in those communities. During his tenure with the Salem Police Department he was active in the Toys for Tots program and the New Hampshire Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Bruce, was the father of Salem High School science teacher and Math & Science Area Director, Debbie Payne. Bruce was a graduate of M.I.T. and became a systems analyst and programmer for several large technological companies. Before it became fashionable, he was a firm believer in equal opportunity for both men and women in the fields of math and science.

Kevin moved to Salem, NH, at the age of three and was a 1987 graduate of SHS. Kevin loved trucks, carpentry, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, and helping people in need. Kevin's accidental death was difficult for his friends and family. His friend Wendy Tedder MacCormack, along with many others, initiated this scholarship in his name.

Gayle was a well known elementary school teacher in the Salem School District, ending her career at the Haigh School. Gayle was predeceased by her mother, Anna Preston. Gayle was heavily involved in school activities and was an active participant in the community.

Charles was a long time resident of Salem. His wife Mary, and his children are all familiar faces in the Salem community. His children are all Salem High graduates and very successful and active in academic and athletic activities.

Louis and Marguerite Brown were the parents of Barbara Brown Nute. The Brown family is very well known to the Salem Community. Barbara recently passed away of a long illness and the Louis and Marguerite funds were combined with new donations to establish the family trust fund.

Sean Taylor Bryant was the youngest child of Robert and Karen Bryant of Salem. Sean’s family also includes two sisters, Joselyn and Allyssa, and two brothers, Jason and Adam. All of the Bryant children went to the Mary A. Fisk School where Sean was a third grader when he passed away in January of 1999 after a brief bout with cancer.

Mary Ellen was the daughter of Robert and Barbara Burns. In 1981, Mary Ellen graduated from Barbizon School of Modeling and went on to place seventh in the Miss NH Teen Pageant. After graduating from Salem High School in 1983, Mary Ellen attended Hesser College and New Hampshire College. In 1986, Mary Ellen passed away in an automobile accident on her way to the Miss NH Beach Pageant.

Bernie was the husband of Marilyn Turner Campbell, a well known Salem community activist. The Campbells worked the Campbell/Turner Dairy farm for many years before transforming it into the Campbell Scottish Highlands Golf Course. Bernie served for many years in many capacities, but was most well known for his work on the Salem School Board. He was also inducted into the Woodbury-Salem Hall of Fame.

On June 28, 2008, a courageous battle with cancer came to an untimely end. Karen J. Casey, devoted wife, loving mother, caring friend and incredible teacher, lost her brave fight against colorectal cancer after approximately twenty months of illness. By creating a scholarship, her family hopes to continue making an impact on the lives of students in the same way that Karen did in her everyday life.

Elaine was a long time Salem educator before she passed away from ALS, also known as Lou Gherig’s Disease. She was a dedicated teacher and friend to many in the Salem community. She was the wife of David Codding and mother of Sheila Codding. This memorial was established by her colleagues, friends, and family.

Alan, a Salem High graduate, was the son of Robert and Diana Cook and brother to Jeffrey. His great love was restoring old cars and making them work again. He graduated in 1986 and went to Ohio Diesel Technical School and graduated as “Master Technician.” He worked for the Timberlane Transportation Co. until he passed away.

Derrick was the son of William Corcoran and Gail Bennett-Corcoran. At the time of his accident in May, 1990, Derrick was a sophomore in the Honors Program at the University of New Hampshire enrolled in the Whittemore School of Business. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School where he was a devoted member of the wrestling team.

Cailey was the daughter of Donna and Michael Delahanty, long time Salem administrator and current Superintendent of Schools. She was the sister of Brady Delahanty and friend to all who knew her. She passed away of a rare form of brain cancer at the age of six. According to her family, she remained optimistic and happy every single day of her life.

Michael, a Salem High graduate, was the son of Ken and Jean Demers. While at SHS, he excelled in football, wrestling, and baseball. After high school, he joined the United States Navy Seabees. In the service, he met his wife, Lisa, and they had two children, Michael and Sarah. While stationed in Japan, he died in a swimming accident only six weeks away from the end of his tour of duty.

Don was the husband of Pat Desmarais, long time resident of Salem and Windham. Don received his Bachelor’s Degree from UNH, his Master’s Degree from Fitchburg State, and his degree in Advanced Graduate Study in Education from BU. He served as an officer in the US Army. His career began as a teacher and football coach. He served as Principal at Hollis, Milford, Salem and Trinity High Schools.

This fund was established by friends upon Larry’s untimely death. Larry attended SHS in the mid 1970’s and was a member of the 1975 State Championship team. Larry excelled in football, basketball, and especially baseball. He was drafted in 1976 by the Detroit Tigers Baseball Organization. Larry was a natural athlete, blessed with amazing speed. He excelled in any sport he tried.

Scott was the son of Stephen and Diane MacDonald. Scott graduated from Salem High School in 1992. He was captain of the Cross-Country team and was involved in track throughout his high school years. The 110 High Hurdles was his best event. Scott played guitar, wrote songs and poetry. He had a great voice and his music was full of passion.

Ann was the mother of Susan Liversidge of Haverhill, MA. She attended Framingham State College and graduated in1936. Ann began her career in Amesbury, Massachusetts, and for forty-two years was active in the Salem School System. She retired as Director of Guidance. She was very active in DFS and was eventually elected to the National Honor Roll and also inducted into the Salem/Woodbury Hall of Fame.

Helen was the daughter of Kay and Joseph Pappalardo. She was the sister to Maria Pappalardo Blakslee and mother to Kathryn and Theresa Ferguson. After graduating from Plymouth State College, she returned to her hometown to begin her teaching career. She was a long time and extremely popular English teacher at SHS until her tragic death in 1994.

Al and Dot lived in Salem for more than 30 years. Dot worked in the Salem High School lunch program for nearly 20 years. Al was involved in organizing the first Cub Scout pack in Salem 25 years ago and was also active in Little League. When Al passed away suddenly in 1979, Dot was left to raise their younger children on her own. Their daughter Tina, who attended SHS.

Al and Cathy Girard, along with their son, Matt, chose to begin this scholarship at the time of their retirement. This fund is intended only for students who are continuing their educations in the field of Culinary Arts. Cathy was a long time teacher for the Salem School District and Al served as a custodian, mostly at the Woodbury School. Matt is now working in the field of Culinary Arts.

Bob was born in Breton Woods, New Hampshire. After attending local schools, he graduated from Bethelehem High School in 1940. He moved to Salem with his wife, Rhoda and family in 1956. Bob was the father of three sons including Dave Greenlaw, father-in-law of Heidi L. Greenlaw, SHS Director of Guidance, and grandfather to Sarah and Hannah Greenlaw, both Salem High graduates.

Christine was the daughter of Barbara Boyd. Christine excelled academically, musically, and athletically. She received numerous awards, including proficiency awards in both English and Science. She was a superior student athlete, elected to the National Honor Society as a sophomore, and went on to be the Salutatorian of the Class of 1997. She was attending Middlebury College when she passed away.

This scholarship was initiated by the Hagen Family after the death of William Hagen, Sr. It also memorializes other family members including William, Sr.'s wife, Louise, a long time Salem District nurse, her daughter, Karen, and her son, Michael. Both Karen and Michael were star athletes while at Salem High.

Howie was the son of Homer Hamlin, long time Salem elementary school Principal and Sandra Hamlin Raymond. He was the brother of Steve Hamlin and Camela Hamlin St. Gelais. Howie excelled in track and cross-country at Salem High School. He attended UNH then enjoyed a successful business. He passed away, suddenly, at the age of 26 after a brief illness.

Gertrude and Henry were the parents of long time Salem English teacher, Paul Huard. Gertrude worked in retail before finding her calling as an elementary school teacher. Henry was a Manchester NH, firefighter for forty-two year and a WWII veteran. They were most proud of their two granddaughters, Rebecca Huard Sousa, a buyer for TJX, and Amy Huard Dailey, a third generation teacher in Plaistow.

Michele’s family and friends established the scholarship after her sudden death in 1986. Michele was a student at Woodbury School when she passed away. The younger of two daughters, she leaves behind the memory of a popular, pretty teen with a contagious laugh. Michele did well in school. She was a quick learner with a tendency to be the class clown.

Gerda was a teacher at Salem High School for over 25 years. She served as Social Studies Department Chairperson for most of those years and was the founder of the nationally recognized Model United Nations. Gerda retired after the 1994-1995 school year. She did want to leave something behind. Through her efforts and the efforts of several close friends, she has done so in the form of this scholarship.

Steven graduated from Salem High School in 1984. He made his part-time job with Salem Screen his full-time employment while he enjoyed life, family and friends. After a few years, he relocated to Florida where he continued his passion for fishing. He returned to New Hampshire in 1988 to enjoy his other passion, skiing. He died at the age of 22 in an automobile accident.

Al and Marion graduated from Keene State College in 1963 and 1964. Al continued to Purdue University for his Masters Degree. He taught chemistry at SHS for 37 years. During these 37 years, Al served as Science Department Chairman for 16 years and briefly as Assistant Principal. Marion was an elementary teacher in Hudson, Salem, and Hampstead for a total of twenty-four years.

Judy was a graduate of Salem High School. While at SHS, she played flute in the band. Upon graduation, Judy went to Michigan State University and earned a degree in Computer Science. After graduation, she served one year in the U.S. Air Force and returned to Michigan State and earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science. She passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jason was the son of Rhonda McCune, long time SHS teacher. This scholarship was established by family and friends upon his passing in August of 2007. Jason was a scholar/athlete who graduated from SHS in 2002. He was a distinguished runner and Cross-Country Captain his senior year. After graduating from BU in 2006 with a degree in Economics, he moved to Hawaii to work for the Bank of Hawaii.

Richard Coleman Miller, Jr., "Rick", was born in Salem, New Hampshire, in 1976. He was the son of Florence and Richard Miller. He attended Barron School, Woodbury and Salem High where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. He went on to attend the University of West Virginia and the University of New Hampshire. While there, he took courses pursuant to a career in nutrition. He died while at school in 1995.

Joanie Molloy grew up and was educated in Springfield, Massachusetts. She was a Cum Laude graduate of both Cathedral High and Western New England College. She was an active volunteer in the Salem School District at the Soule School, Woodbury Middle School, and Salem High School, all at the same time! Joanie is survived by husband, Brian, daughters, Shea, Quinn, and Rylie, all of Salem.

Thomas Morrow, III, a long time Salem community activist, played a prominent role in developing the modern Canobie Lake Park and park manager, worked tirelessly for the Salem Chamber and Dollars for Scholars. Upon the death of his father, friends donated in his memory. Upon Tom’s death in 2007, the scholarship became the first father and son permanent scholarship.

A graduate a North Cambridge High School and Wentworth Institute, Tom worked for General Electric Company and Textron Defense Systems. Tom was an active community member. He was director for the Cobbetts Pond Association, member of the American Racquetball Association, the Patriot Masonic Lodge No. 33, the Derry Elks of Salem, and Tournament Director at the Salem Athletic Club.

Kevin was the husband of Dawn Leary O’Keefe and father of Crystal Lynne who attended Salem High and Ryan O’Keefe who attended Central Catholic. After college, Kevin worked at the Salem Boys and Girls Club. Kevin died in an automobile accident on May 8, 1991. Kevin excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. Kevin graduated from the Tilton School and Newbury College.

Louise was the mother of Sandy Poirier Corbin, long time Salem elementary school teacher. Mrs. Poirier graduated from Woodbury High School. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Salem and in Florida. She ran her business and worked in the field of cosmetology for 58 years, continuing right up until the time of her death in 1995. She enjoyed golfing and horseracing and was always active in community affairs.

Bob Rhoades was a long time Social Studies teacher and coach at Salem High School who passed away suddenly in 2006. Bob came to Salem as a JV basketball coach and later ran the Varsity program for a number of years. He was also an extremely successful Cross-Country and Boys Tennis coach. Bob was always coaching. In and out of season, Bob was always looking for a basketball game or a tennis match.

This award was established in 1991 at the request of Martha Devine. Martha, Past-President of the Booster’s, worked tirelessly for many years for the athletes of this community. Upon her retirement, Martha felt very strongly that there should be something permanent left to the student/athletes of Salem High School. Thus, a permanent scholarship through Dollars for Scholars was established.

The Salem Teen Social Center, the creation of Fran Gugliotta and his late wife, Glendolyn, became official in 1994, after many year of preparation. This scholarship is intended for a student who is heavily involved in community service. This group of students was intensely dedicated in helping others. It is the hope of the individuals who donated the money that you continue to dedicate yourself in helping others as often as your schedule permits.

Mark was the husband of Monica Ray Sambataro and father of Ryan and Hannah Sambataro. Mark was born in Lawrence, MA, and was a lifelong resident of Salem. He graduated from Salem High School in 1978. Mark was a Salem police officer for twenty-one years and retired in 2007. After his retirement he started Focal Point Investigations with some fellow police officers. He died of a heart attack in 2008.

This scholarship was established in memory of Charles W., Garnett Seifert and Charles A. Seifert, II. Charles W. was a long time community activist and founder of the Salem Coca-Cola Co. Garnett served as a member of a number of community groups and also worked for Coke. Charles A. was a long time Salem High teacher and Drama Director. The entire family was and is engaged heavily in the Salem Community.

Lewis, long time Salem attorney, was the husband of Virginia Soule and the father of Diana Soule Seifert. After graduating from Harvard University and Harvard Law School, Attorney Soule returned to Salem to practice law until his death in 1986. He served as legal counsel for the Town of Salem and its school district, and represented many neighboring towns and school districts.

Jonathan was the third of three children born to Kathy and Bill Spohn. His sister, Diana, his brother, Christopher, and the rest of the family moved to Salem, NH, in 1977. Jon was a student at the Fisk School, Woodbury School and Salem High School in 1988. He was a freshman at Columbia University in New York City and a member of Columbia’s wrestling team at the time of his death.

Jimmy Stewart was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. Residents of Salem for more than 25 years, the two were very involved in the community. Jim was a member of the Salem Lion’s Club and held official positions in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Dollars for Scholars and the Salem School Board.

John and Nancy Sununu were residents of Salem, NH for approximately 30 years. All eight of their children attended school in the Salem School District. John Sununu served as Governor of New Hampshire and was Chief-of Staff for the President of the United States under George HW Bush. Nancy Sununu was also an active member of the Salem Community and served on the Salem School Board. This scholarship was started to recognize their years of service in the Salem Community.

Born in Epping, NH he became a life-long resident of Salem, graduating from Woodbury High in 1957. After graduation, Lynne entered the Army and upon returning married Brenda Rich. He formed LT Construction, L C Teague Trucking, and Clinton Realty Trust. He was a founding member of the Salem Contractors and built over 300 homes in Salem. Lynne was the father of Clinton Teague, Patricia Teague Amico, and grandfather of Brianna and Vanessa Amico. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his granddaughters, restoring and showing his antique cars, traveling and aviation.

Marian was one of ten students who comprised the very first graduating class of Woodbury High School in 1926. She eventually married Carl L. Thompson and moved to California. Mrs. Thompson was a talented musician who excelled as a vocalist, a pianist and organist. Marian’s sister, Hazel Ford, wanted to honor her sister’s memory by donating this scholarship. Hazel has since passed away.

When the Town and Country Playhouse made the decision to disband, they used the remaining funds to establish this scholarship. It is their hope that these funds be used to further the career of a future actor, director, or technician in the world of theatre.

This scholarship was created by the family and friends that Karen touched throughout her life. Karen, and husband Nick Vadala were always there to support their daughters Kristen, Tracy, Jenna and Leeann Vadala. You would find her at many SHS sporting events (Softball, Gymnastics, Field Hockey and Cheerleading), never missing a beat throughout her 8 year battle with breast cancer. Karen was a gymnastics star at Burlington High School where she met her future husband Nick Vadala. She went on to compete in gymnastics at the collegiate level and enjoyed keeping that family tradition alive.

At the age of 15, Patrick died from injuries sustained in a car accident. He would have entered Salem High School at the end of that summer. He was a gifted artist who loved to draw. He also taught himself how to play the guitar. He loved cars and started working early in order to purchase a Mustang convertible. For his family, life forever changed but the Wilders hope this scholarship will help others succeed.

Henry was an All-State football player for Woodbury High School in Salem in 1949. Geraldine worked for the National Education Association. Both of their children, Stephen and Eric, received Dollars for Scholars Scholarships.
